Can I still train and compete with my current Squad?
Of course!!!! We don't want to steal you away from your current team!!! We're just giving you the opportunity to expand your cheerleading horizons and be as involved as you want. For example: if you're part of a uni squad but you can't do competitions because of the costs and times involved- no need to sulk: the Zoo is here! Do a one off comp with lots of other people in the same situation!
Do I need to take part in ALL the events?
No- with Space City Zoo you do whatever you like.
Do I have to attend ALL pratices on the calendar?
No- You only have to attend the practices for the event you sign up to. This means usually half a day for gigs, and one weekend for comps.
What if I live away from london?
Space City Zoo will aim to get gigs a bit everywhere in the UK. At the moment, we have a 'Northern Officer' which will lead events and practices in the Northern part of the country. We hope to expand our club in the future so that we can have more group leaders and Zoo representatives all over the country. The training weekends and competition training will mostly happen around the London area. But don't fret-- the Zoo is one big family and you can always stay at someone's house for that weekend!
Do I have to attend all of the 6 camps?
No, you don't. You are encouraged to, as you have already payed for them in your membership fee.
How much cheerleading experience do I need to have?
Ideally, we ask for a minimum of one year's experience and an intermediate level. There are exceptions to this rule however, for example if your stunting experience is limited but you have strong dancing or tumbling skills.
Why do I need a reference?
As we accept people on the squad that we have not met before, and we do not hold tryouts, we require a reference form your coach to make sure you will fit in well with the Space City Zoo program.
Can I just do competitions and no events? Or vice-versa?
Yes, of course. You can do whatever you want.
Can I only do dance routines and no cheer? Or vice-versa?
Yes, of course. You can do whatever you want.
What does the £50 membership fee cover?
This fee will cover administration fees, 6 weekend camps, a club T-Shirt, Insurance, eligibility to participate in all events and attendance to practices.
Do I need to pay for my Uniform?
Only If you want your own. Otherwise Space City Zoo uniforms are purchased by the club from committee fundraisers, and they will be loaned out to you for each event.
Which competitions will we be doing?
We're going to compete with FC and ICC as they don't have double duty rule annoyance. And we're gonna do less 'mainstream comps' so that it won't clash with other squads.
Do we get payed for the events?
We will aim to get every participant a fee of £50 per day as a compensation for their time and efforts, plus a booking fee for the club to cover administration costs, practice space, etc... However some events may be less or more depending on the client- but you will be informed of this before you sign up. Some events won't be payed if they are fundraisers, publicity stunts or charity events.
